Question How long before our hobby is outlawed?

California is making big screen televisions illegal because they use too much energy. I expect liberals across the country will try to follow suit.

MH lighting, and other aspects of reef keeping, use as much or more energy.

Simply put: How long do you think it will be before our hobby becomes impossible or impractical because of government intervention?

Your bias is showing.

South Carolina is trying (was successful?) to make women look at an ultrasound of their baby before getting an abortion. I expect conservatives across the country will try to follow suit.

You should say CA is tryingto make big screens illegal. Congressmen and voter initiatives try to do all kinds of stuff. Thats how our legal system works. This really belongs in the off topic lounge even though it is using reefing as an example.

This hobby may be restricted due to suggested direct ecological issues, not energy issue.

I don't know but my guess is it will take longer than it will for this thread to get shut down. Although I probably share your opinion, RC frowns on threads of a political nature....

IBTL what part of no political discussion is unclear?

Not to mention so as long as you are happy to heck with everyone else and taking care of where we ALL live.

this isn't really related to the thread, but I heard a funny story the other day about how great plans can go wrong. (my retelling of this story will be bad, but hopefully it will still come across)

Some international group wanted a coastal community to fish less, so they did something to encourage the locals to do other work. This was successful, the locals took advantage of the new work and made decent money.

Now the problem, the locals used this money to buy more/better fishing equipment and harvested more fish than before the program started!

And I quote...

"The California Energy Commission votes 5-0 in favor of the nation's first efficiency regulations for televisions of up to 58 inches sold in the state. The stricter rules take effect Jan. 1, 2011."

PS...IBTL

I could have asked the question blindly. But thought some context was required.

It seems applicable... and worthy of note.

If leisure items are made illegal at any point because of energy consumption, would we, or would we not, expect our hobby to be effected?

Bias or not, legitimate question and concern. Surely.
