Lighting System...
Got a new 115 gallon tank, and I was wondering if I have enough light going into the tank:
1. I have 4 units which each hold 2 40W 24" T12 actinic bulbs 2. 2 250w HQI 10k lights positioned equally apart on each end. Good for starting out? The T12 came with the tank, and I will eventually upgrade to some T5 but for now, are they okay? Last edited by MaJaCa; 12/06/2009 at 12:58 AM. |

A few questions....what are the dimensions of the tank? What type of tank are you setting up? Reef, FOWLR, Just fish? If it will be a reef tank, what types of coral are you looking to keep?

The tank is 60" long, 25" high, 18.5" wide.
I want to set up a reef, and get a pretty large variety of coral in it, but I just want advice if that would be enough light. |

I think you are good for lighting. Depending on what type of metal halides you are using.

I would get rid of the T-12's and just use the 2x250 MH. Not sure what reflectors you're using, but they can make or break your lighting set-up (spread, intensity, efficiency).
