Return line

Just finished plumbing the return and had a few drips, so looking ove the system I decided to simplify it as much as possible to eliminate future trama.
I have a gate valve sending some flow to fuge and another gate valve to regulate flow from ehiem 1260. (60 gal DT)
Question: I am running 100% open, so is there any reason to keep the second valve? One of my drips will casue me to lose a section of fittings and don't want to replace valve if not necessary. Just can't think of a reason to keep it. I don't see a need to regulate flow, only pushing less than 450 at best.
