upgrading skimmer vertex to a octo or octo extreme
Well I have a vertex 100 and im thinking about upgrading to a octo 200 or a octo extreme 200. I have a 75g with a 30g sump. And its got a decent bio load. I have about $300 to spend.

I have had the MSX 200 for about a year. 8 months with the purple pinwheel added & I couldn't be happier. I haven't had to adjust it in 6 months. No joke. It pulls about 1/2 skimmer cup of nasty, stinky poo out of my 75 every 2 weeks or so.

MSX SWC Extreme Mini-S Cone Protein Skimmer $370. Just a little over your budget but worth every penny if you can spring for it. I added one to my setup (same size tank/sump) and WOW!!!

Yes, I just cleaned mine yesterday or I would post pictures of the gunk it pulls out. I replaced a MR-1 skimmer with this and couldn't be happier. I absolutely love it. Very easy to adjust and started working the first day (I did give it a 4 hour run in the tub with a bit of vinegar first).
Here it is in my sump running on day 1 however Not MINI by any means. The sump is a 29G like I said, so that should give you a good idea of the room. My water is deep 14" in the first section so I had to raise it up 4", they call for it to be 10" deep. (I think this is the correct way they want you to measure it? I need to PM them and make sure, either way its working great at this level). Up close.... All the bubbles go straight up, hardly any go out the exhaust piping! (Most of the bubbles in the outer section of the skimmer or just loose bubbles hanging onto the acrylic. I need to get a better picture now that the acrylic has cleared off since its been running...)
