Would you use these heaters (pic included)

Hello RC Happy Sunday

I have in my possession (pictured below) these two titanium heaters that are approximately 5 years old. They both work, but they have not been used in a couple years. One is a 150W the other is a 250w

The question - Would you use these in your reef? Since heaters are one of the less expensive components to our reefs, I am wondering if it would be worth replacing them...Just looking for your opinions

If you had a controller you'd only have to worry about them not turning on.

You have something by a GFI outlet you could test them in? Do that and if they work and don't appear to have corrosion then you might be able to use them.

+1 on the controller,

Otherwise, like you pointed out, heaters are not terribly expensive, yet have led to many tank crashes. I recommend periodic replacement of them.

Thanks for the quick reply. There is no corrosion present - Due to the high system volume they are going into, it would take both heaters failing in the on position to effect water temp to a degree high enough to cook the tank, so no controller necessary ASSuming they both dont fail!

I am kind of on the fence on this one, I wanted to get a general consensus and have RC make the decision for me so if they do kill my tank, I can come back and blame you lol JK

Ill be adding a controller to my reef a little further down the line when I recover financially from all the other junk I have been buying. I think I am going to throw em in and see what happens.

If you're that unsure, just replace them

WHAT? lol too late - I got them sitting in a tank right now....Luckily that tank has nothing in it but tap water...Heaters are moving the temp up from 60f by about .1 degrees p\minute in about 100gallons of water...not too bad IMO, although I have nothing to compare it to?
