Skimmer upgrade
hey, im looking to upgrade the skimmer on my 125(got a glass 135 about to be swapped out). currently i have last years octopus NW150 which does awesome but im looking for something a lil more powerful. my stand has 24" of clearance top to bottom so i need something that will fit in there.
this is what i've had in mind so far Super Reef Octopus XP 2000(cone)-rated for 200gallons: 399.95 Reef Octopus Extreme 200-rated for 250gallons: 289.95 ASM G-2-rated for 200gallons: 249.99 those are what i have in mind. i don't want to go to expensive right now because im upgrading to a 300 in january/febuary any suggestions or experience with these skimmers?

If you are going to be upgrading to a larger system in 1-2 months why would u buy a smaller skimmer. Might as well just by a larger one now and run your old one or run your new one. If your afraid it would be to big for your current system run it on a timer at night.
As far as the skimmers you listed im waiting for the new Super Reef Octopus XP 5000(cone) to come out. Have heard nothing but good about the smaller 2000 model |

thanks guys, i was debating the cone over the extreme because of the gallon rating is higher than the cone
the reason is because the 300 is going to take around 5-6 months before its ready for stocking so the 125(135) is going to be running until then. the only way for me to run a 300+ gallon skimmer on the tank is to plumb it outside of the stand and im not sure if i want to do that because the tank is in my room and noise could be a problem.

I would go with the MSX extreme 200. www.marinesolutions.com The pump comes with a better pinwheel and intake.

I have the Octo cone 2000. It is a pretty decent skimmer for the price but, the humming from the pump is annoying. I can hear it about 25 feet away in the next room while watching TV.

i also would go msx. the 200 or the 250 would be great for a tank like that. i have had the msx 200 and the asm g3 and like the msx a lot better than the asm series.

Go for the MSX 300A. It will be ok for a little while. Might as well go for it now.
