Can my skimmer be pulling organics already?

Tonight I finished all the plumbing, and filling for my tank. The tank has had dry sand added to it. The sand was bought dead. The water is all new right from an RODI unit, with seachem reef salt. I also borrowed a filter sock from another tank to put on the end of my drain so I could polish the water.

My MSX 200 protein skimmer was set to allow the bubbles to only reach the neck line. Well about a half hour later the bubbles are kind bursting at the top of the cup, and theres like a slick brown on the bottom of my skimmer cup already. The skimmers has been running for about an hour and a half, a half hour at its desired water level.

Is it possible even though all that dead sand and RODI water is in my tank, the skimmer can be pulling skimmate? Or is it something else?

Thanks.

It can pull skimmate. Even though it dead sand, it still have nutrient. All the "dead" is being pull out of the water by the skimmer

Its probably pulling small particles of sand out of the water column. I had a Euroreef that did this when I first started my tank.
