So im going to get some glass cut tomorrow for some baffles for my sump.
I want about 10 inches of water in the skimmer section. Do i cut my baffles 9 inches so there is about 1 inch of water going over the baffles....going to have the 3 baffle trad setup per chamber.

cut the baffles the same height as your water level. 1" of water flowing over the baffle tells me that the flow rate is too high and you'll get microbubbles too.

If you want 9" the I would get two 7" baffles and make a bubble trap with one at 7" high(at bottom) and the other at 11" high(elevated 4" above bottom).

I just did this in a sump I built. Make sure that you allow enough space between the baffles to support the volume/flow that you have going thru the sump. Many instructions say 1" between baffles but if you have a high flow sump you may want to space them out a little more. Also my understanding is flow is supposed to be over under and over. So if you want 10" of water cut all 3 baffles 10" high put the 1st and 3rd all the way to the bottom and the 2nd/middle 1 to 1-1/2" off the bottom( needs to be at least the same distance off the bottom as the distance between them).

That's exactly what I did and it worked out great.

BTW, where are you getting your glass cut? Can Lowes or HD do it? How thick of a glass are you getting? Thanks.

I called a glass company in sioux falls and they said that they could do it. I have some glass out of a 55 gallon im going to use. they have to cut all the glass around the edges because it has silicone on it and it wont stick to new silicone...good idea on lowes or home depot. Ill call them now and let you know.

plexiglass works too. Just buy something thick enough to resist the water flow.

Cutting can be a pain. I use metal blades and a sabre saw with a lubricant/coolant.

also i like to have it cut like an overflow the slots or grate type holes on top, in this case its usualy easier to use plastic.

I would just buy your glass from them. I just built my sump and four pieces cost $14. 11 3/4 x 8 x 1/4.

Go to lowes get a piece of glass that can be cut down into multiple pieces. Oh and buy an extra piece just in case.
