Glasscage dirlling

Ok i was wondering if i can drill some extra holes in my tank for a closed loop system but how do i know if its tempered or not? It's a 180g tank that i got from glasscages. One other thing when they drilled my tank for my sump its 1.5'' out and 1'' in does this seem kind of small for a 180 or should it be bigger?

AGA and Perfecto only temper the bottom. I am not sure about Glass Cages. Call them and ask. The holes are good size. The 1" return hole is large. You can force a lot of water through that hole.

If you purchased the tank used find out from the previous owner when they purchased it and then you can contact GC and find out if it was temp or not. But more then likely it wasnt.

I dont think glass cages does any tempered tanks that are not public tanks, and 1 inch return is plenty and 1.5 inch drain is fine as well.

I drilled my GC tank. 4 holes in the back wall ,no problem.
Which 180 do you have ? [dimensions] Does it have only one drain and one return.?

I've drilled lots of GC tanks, never a tempered one in the bunch. If you're thinking about drilling the drain and return holes bigger, DON'T. That's an accident waiting to happen. To big of a chance in cracking the tank.

Personal tank: 150 gal. GC tank 48x25x30. 1" return and 1.5" drain. 2x 1.5 inch drains for the closed loop and 8x 3/4" returns for the closed loop.

I am just wondering. When you say you drilled lots of GC tanks, how many would you estimate? I have drilled a few hundred tanks, but never one of theirs. I have the first GC tank to drill and I was worried about tempered glass. Most all manufacturers do not use tempered on the back and sides. It is usually on the bottom.

I have drilled larger holes over existing holes in tanks. It can be done, but I agree you need to know what you are doing. I would not suggest you try this if you are new at it.

I have a 240G starfire tank from them and i am sure you will be fine but as stated before I would call them to make sure.
and my tank also has the same size of drains and returns and all has been fine for about a year now.
hope this helps you out.

I've drilled about half that many on GC tanks. But you don't have to take my word on, go ahead and call Tom.

Wouldn't you already know that it's not tempered if it's already drilled?
