40 gal bio load???

I have a 40 gallon breeder with an HOB reef skimmer rated for 90 gallons, 50 pounds of LR, and a little cluster of chaeto. Currently I have a few hermit crabs, a 2 inch maroon clown, and a 4 in hawk fish. I want to add 2 fish to my tank a coral beauty that is 3-4 inches and little flamefin tang. Is this too much bio load???
Thanks for reading,
Connor

i wouldnt add the tang. i dont know about the angel but most of them are pretty active and will spend the day nipping at the live rock. maybe you can add the small cherub angelfish

id also look into some gobies or small blennies

A cherub would be cool but I really like the coral beauty. The guy at my fish store is going to throw in some mushrooms for free so I can get started on corals. Would either of these fish be a problem with corals from anyones personal experience with the fish?

all angels will nip on corals. i think most of them tend to nip on meaty corals like brain corals and SPS polyps along with clams. you might be fine for a while without it nipping, but eventually theyll like the taste of corals. im not sure if mushrooms are on the list though

so your saying it would be a countdown until I would have to get rid of the coral beauty?

The Maroon is going to get to big for that tank. See if you can trade it in for a perc. The angel will nip at your corals - more than likely. Some have success with the angels not nipping at the corals. Your call.

When I had a coral beauty in my 40 gallon he never picked at my corals. I really wish I had never sold him. I'd recommend one; I think I am going to pick up a flame angel eventually though.

coral beautys are a bad option because they not only have the possibility to pick at polyps but they also are MEAN!!

A Maroon wont need a bigger tank as long as its 30 gallons or over and most aquarium raised marroons dont get to their potential size.

I have a yellow pygmy angel and it nips as xenia occassionally (which it doesnt bother me since its basically a weed) but leave sps, lps and other softies alone.
I had a coral beauty but it bit my sps but all angels are different.

Well he is a really really small tang, but he will just get to big too fast? or is it swimming space?

Back to the original bio load question. The bioload shouldn't be to much, just wait a couple weeks between additions to allow the bacteria to colonize.
