GPS as background?
Hey guys i was thinking about doing something different for my background or just one side of my 55gal. I wanted to try to grow Green star polyps. I was thinking about gluing some on the back or just one side of the tank and see how that goes.
Have anyone every tried this? Ever seen how it looks? I want to see some pics to see how it will end up. |

I tried that. I super glue a small piece on my overlow and now the whole back is cover with GSP. The problem is that it only grows up, so only the top half of my wall is covered.
It looks nice, but I don't think I'll do it again in my next tank. It grows like weed and kills every it touchs. Dont do it. |

I would not do it. It can spread to everything. I keep mine on small pieces of rock in the open area and not touching other rocks.

i would like to say that i had over half the back of my 11 foot tank covered with star polyp., and it does grow other ways than up, it will grow in whatever direction the flow you put on it is going. and as long as you have nothing touching the back it is easily managed. i will see if i can find picks with it at its peak, as i just sold the tank, so i can not just take a new pic. so if thats what you want go for it, it looks awesome if done right and maintained

yeah i just want to see what it will look like. I dont mind trying to maintain it but i have some LR touching the back and i dont want it to spread. I want to see if its actually worth the trouble thats why i wanted to see pics.
If anyone can find any pics, it would be great. Thanks. |

I had them on the back on my old tank. Sorry no pics right now.
The issue is that as they grow they'll develop little finger like appendages growing out that will drop off. These will get down in the rock work and then spread through the rest or cause major rock work to get it out. At least IME.

I don't remember when I had the monti, but I think it is probably 1 year old give or take a couple months. I started out with a 3x3 piece. The rose anenome used to be below the monti to the right of the clowns in the second picture. The monti grows so big blocking all the light, so it moved beneath the overflow box 2 months ago. The GSP is killing the other half. tatooreef is right. Keep it away from the rock and trim it regularly then you will be fine. |
