JeffT72's tank pics (new setup finally)
So we have finally added critters to the 65g after several months of cycling and getting all the ducks in a row. I bought this DAS tank used from a local shop and it did not have any lights. I came upon a great deal for 2 icecap ballasts that allowed me to setup a 4x39w T5HO(full spectrum) and 2x75w VHO (super actinic).
We moved the tank into the living area and rescaped the tank and then added our new critters. 1 emerald crab, 5 hermits, 3 nassarius, 2 turbo, and 2 astrea snails. So far everything is looking good and it is awesome to finally have light on in the tank and living things to look at. We plan to be on the look out for some softies to start adding to the tank along with some shrimp to augment the CUC. Onto the pics: Actinics only: Left side: Right side: Thanks for looking. |

We haven't gotten into the planned fish stock list. I believe that some sort of clown fish will definitely be in there. I really like the B/W or black and yellow clowns. Choice of fish after that will take some time to research given the tank restrictions. It's ~40" wide so I will need to focus on fish that are more docile. I believe a few chromis will be in there too in short order.

nice tank. It's absolutely up to you, but IMO(and maybe the pics don't do it justice) with actinics and daylights on it doesn't seem very blue. I think you could swap out 1 or 2 of those t5's with actinics. Or you could do daylight vho, and all t5 in actinics.

You are correct ChiefSurfer, the Hagen Procolor bulbs (bought from the previous owner with a few months use on them) show to be 18000K in color. I am holding off for now, but swapping out one of the T5 bulbs for an actinic or a mix bulb might be on the road map to gain that blue color combo.

Thanks for the views and critiques. Part of this hobby is getting to share what you enjoy with others and see what others are doing.
I expect to be adding some coral frags this evening (frogspawn, and a few zoas). I will be sure to keep the pictures coming. |
