I always recommend 24/7. then change it every 2-4 weeks.

I run it 24/7 in a Two Little Fishies canister. The carbon last about 3-4 weeks at most.
Depends on how much I feed and other factors. |

Don't run carbon. Look into sea chems purigen.
Synthetic beads that extract ammonia, junk, nitrates, etc and do the same as carbon but purigen is replenishable by taking it out and soaking it in household bleach. Rinse it and put it back into your tank. Check it out on marinedepot or drsfostersmith.com. Purigen |

I have purigen too. I change that every 3 of 4 months. It sits in a bag in my sump.

I run it in the sump in bags and wash it off about every 3 weeks and change it about 3-4 months. If you don't wash it off, the carbon gets covered and the water just goes around it, not through it, inorder to do its job.
