Pods of darkness [pic]
My tank is nearly 7 monthes old, so it is still a baby. I have found these guys growing in the dark areas as well as the inside of my overflow and parts of my sump. They are white with tiny frills along their one end. The other end attaches to the rock via a small staulk. You can see them attached to the bottom of the rock in the picture. The one on the left is As big as they get.
Any ideas on what they might be? How to get rid of them? Do I have to worry about them? Thanks in advance, Tim |

Hard to tell from the pi but looks like copods, not something to worry about, in fact they are EXTREMELY beneficial to keep the tank clean and are a great food source for the fish.

Can you get a better pic? If they are attached to the rock then they are not copepods. Can you at least put an arrow and point at what you're talking about? From your description it sounds like you’re talking about feather duster, aiptasia, majano’s, but from the picture I see what looks like an amphipod on the right.

Re: Pods of darkness [pic]
Here is another pic of some in the overflow. The item of interest is dead center in the picture. It is actually attached to the glass and inverse to the ones in the original pic. This one is attached to the glass via it's bottom stub and the top seems to have a small opening with tiny frills around the edge.
Sorry for the poorish quality. The picture was taken with my iPhone. Thanks again, Tim Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That looks to me like a sponge, let me get you a link that you can use to positively identify them.

hard to tell from the pict but if they dont move and are attached I would say Pineapple/Urn sponges.
Harmless filterfeeders, I have them in my sump currently. My tank went through a stage where they exploded and were everywhere. Like much in the tank the population decreased over time. I dont think I have any in the DT currently.

looking at the first photo, thought I could see a pineapple sponge on the bottom left underside of that rock.
Basically pineapple sponges look like pineapples. If that's how they look in person, that's what they are. Harmless, and actually probably good. They are a filterfeeder, and will polish your water |

Re: Pods of darkness [pic]
I googled pineapple sponge and it looks exactly like what I have. These little guys are all over the place so it's good to hear they aren't bad for the tank.
Thanks for the help everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Pineapple sponge was exactly what I was thinking about. Glad you were able to positively ID it.
