Yellow Tang!! I need some advice!
My yellow Tang 4" is being aggressive towards other fish, I have a Blue tang 3", Copperband 3.5", Mystery Wrasse 4", two clowns 1.5", Six line Wrasse 2"
my tank is a 95g reef, with lots of LR, Yellow tang is being very territorial so I m thinking on get him and put him in a container inside the Tank for a while to see what happens, but I need some advice about what's best to do, Do i leave him alone and see if they get used to each other, I m afraid of the blue tang getting ich. I already tried the mirror on the corner trick and after one day of him fighting against the mirror, he still harasses other fish. Any suggestions ???? |

The tank is overstocked. I'd remove the blue tang. Yellow tangs sometimes get aggressive, and two tangs in that size tank is likely bad. Yours might need to go back to the fish store.

One thing you could try is rearangeing your rocks. Often time a new aqua scape will trick fish into finding a new home then assuming they are new to the neigborhood.....

Yellow tanga are funny fish. Mine is so bashful and shy he wouldn't hurt a fly lol.
The tank is definitely overstocked. I would unfortunately have to say find him a new home. |

Reminds me of my yellow tang, although it is not aggressive with others in the tank, but it sure does get ****ed at its own reflection in the glass thinking its another tang.

I've had a few yellow tangs. I got one that was a a complete jerk and had to be removed. Others were fine. Sounds like you got a jerk.

I think you would be better off with one Tang in that tank.

You let him get a sparring session in, and now he's heard the bell and it's on! I would definitly change the aqua scaping. I had the same problem, but as soon as I changed the rocks around, everyone was cool. Good luck.

Defently over stocked. 95 g. I would keep one tang. Blue tang, ouch. If stressed its easily prone to ick. Defently, not worth going though the ick hassle espcially in a reef tank. You could try moving the l.r around. But you have a reef. So its going to be a pain. Either way its going to be a pain taking one of them suckers out. G-luck

I have a yellow tang also, it is Ok with all the other fish that are in my tank but... when I add a new fish of any type for the first 2 or 3 days it's a jerk to the new guy. I expect this is a territorial issue, it seems to cool out after a few days.

You can rearrange rock, put Yellow Tang in a plastic container...whatever you want. Nothing will change the fact that a 95 is way too small for 2 Tangs. The Blue Tang should be in a 180. I'd rehome the Blue Tang.

13 fish in a 72 gal a yellow, hippo and powder brown. OUCHHH. No, disrespect but your in for a disaster sooner or a lil later. For above i would remove the Blue tang. If stressed its easily prone to ick. Take out the yellow tang and move around your rock work. Its going to be a pain. But its well worth it and less pain's and hassle in the future.

Thank u everybody, to move the LR around is a challenge, so, i ll catch the yellow tang(not a walk in the park) and i ll put him in my Qt for some time, a week or two,
And put him back in the display tank And hope for the best. "yellow tang is my wife's favorite fish...I ll be living under the bridge myself if I get rid of him!! You know what I mean. |

Mine just peeks out from behind the rock most of the time. But will protect his cave that he shares with a serpent star.

Only thing stress will do is make the fish more prone to getting ich that is already in the system or fish.If there's no parasite in the system, then there will be no infestation on the fish.

good luck, but if this doesnt solve the problem please put thought into removing one or more of the larger fish in the tank. I didnt like having a blue tang in my 150 gallon tank, it was simply growing too quickly and needed more space.
