Algae Control Reference
Diatoms through the microscope. Appearing as brown algae, these are commonly the first algae to bloom in a new reef tank. I thought it would be a good idea to have a quality reference point for algae control. Post links to insightful articles and threads so newbie and intermediate reefkeepers can take control of pest algaes. Disclaimer: I don't profess to be an expert in algae control, but I'm always learning more and more. |

Good Tips from HighlandReefer on controlling hair algae. This was taken from the thread about dosing API AlgaeFix Marine. It's a good product (I use it on occasion) but it can be HARMFUL with improper dosing. Taking control of the algae's cause is usually the best idea, before resorting to chemical treatment.

Hopefully someone can chime in about elevated Mg levels controling hair algae. I believe I read about that on a thread some where. Maybe it was Bryopsis... I forget.

Here is the thread on Bryopsis control using elevated Mg. I've never encountered this pest, and have no experience attempting to control it.
