skimming a nano

hello all, my skimmer pump for my HQI 28 gallon nano went out after a year of use (i think that the my air check valve went bad because i tried blowing through it and i can not)

so i replaced the pump with

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...fm?pcatid=3676

whisper ap150 deep water pump (for skimmers)

I think that this pump is TOO powerful!

so my thought is ------ to NOT run a skimmer 24 hours, i only have one fish and do NOT over feed the tank so my skimmer does not produce skimmate regularly anyway. I was thinking to only run the pump overnight so I don't have to hear the pump and don't waste running the skimmer 24 hours a day!

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

sure...why not...shouldnt be a problem.

I have a 4 gallon nano that I don't skim...nitrates are below .01.
Feed lightly and every other day or so until skimmer is back.
