Masterflex info needed

I just purchased a masterflex fixed drive pump off ebay. The tag was missing but the guy says it's about 50rpm. Doesn't come with a head but I only paid $25 for it.

I'm going to use it for my ATO setup. I top off 1-2 gallons a day but use an electronic float so there's only a small drop in the sump level before my ATO kicks on.

Looking for help picking the right head. I tried to find info on the Cole Parmer site but can't find the right charts.

Hi,

I like the quick-change heads and I own 3 of them for various applications. I usually am looking for slow and prolonged flow, so I run the #13 diameter tube on the L/S pump heads.

My 2 part pump is only 12 RPM, so you should have plenty of flow on a 50rpm with a larger tube size. Masterflex does have a chart with the corresponding rpm/size/flow etc... but I can seem to locate it right now...

Dots - What info do you need? I've looked thru their site but can't locate the charts for tubing size vs flow for a given rpm.

I cannot for the life of me find the tube size/rpm/flow chart... but i know i found it on that site at some point. Cole Pharmer must make about a million products/models, because finding anything on their site is nearly impossible.

I wish I would have saved it to my computer...

If its any help, I would just find some cheap NEW tubing (must be masterflex brand IMO) and snag an easy load head used off ebay. You can then determine the flow rate manually and set your timer accordingly.

This is how I dose 2 part Calcium/Alk.

Not to hijack the thread, but where do you find cheap new tubing? I have been looking for a long time and can't find any. Thanks for the help.

Tellyfish - Are the Ez load heads built for a single size tubing as the regular heads or are they adjustable?

Eldredge: I heard that US plastics carries the tubing sizes for much less.

Which is the recommended tubing at US plastics? Their pressure norprene lines aren't cheap. Are the industrial grade lines okay for our use?

I have a FEELING that all the Norprene is basically the same. The specs look the same. You could always call Cole-Parmer.

The Ez load heads are adjustable--and easily too.

As for tubing, I just bit the bullet and ordered genuine Masterflex tubing off ebay. If your using a random tube, your flow rates will be off.

How certain are you of this? To what degree are you saying you'll be off? Obviously it depends on the random tube, but that further drives my point on how far off.

A pic of the pump would be best. Or tell us the amount you are wanting to dose and we can recommend a head and tubing. You can search for some of my old post and I detail the heads and tubing combos. I just don't have time to type it all up right now.

Well, it could be considerable depending on the difference in the tube's I.D. and the wall strength as well. For instance, I use the Masterflex controller/dispenser for dispensing precision amounts of water. It asks me what tubing im using because if the tube is larger than expected it will not be accurate. If your dosing 2-part, that could throw your calculations off over time.

This may be completely irrelevant to you depending on how your using the pump. If your not using Masterflex tubing, I would suggest just running the pump for 10 seconds and measure the resulting water to get your flow rate-- rather than trying to use the flow rates cited in Cole Pharmer's documentation.

Got what you're saying. I did test this to some degree, though testing a 1 RPM pump such as mine at 10 seconds won't do much. I tested it over 6-8 hours.

In my case I'm using it for vodka dosing. Now instead of worrying about the milliliters I'm dosing, I go by minutes I'm dosing.

I'm also using mine for automated water changes, but the same tubing is used in both heads.

Flow rates should be identical in this case. I swap out my tubing with new every now and again to prevent stoppage or wear out.
