redbugs
When you no longer have SPS in your tank, do the redbugs die? Or should the tank be treated too?

Good question - I'm interested to know the answer also. Sorry, I can't help, but I look forward to some discussion on the subject

my understanding is that they are like AEFWs and can't live without the acros but I've never had either, just want to know. I have a friend that has them and want to know, as we are treating this weekend in a separate tank and quarantining them. Will any left in the acro-less tank die? or should we treat that tank too?

Red bugs are one of the easiest to treat for. You just drop in some interceptor, turn off the skimmer, remove carbon and anything else that is treating the water, wait 24 hrs and turn it all back on. Problem solved. One dose always works, there are lots of articles that say you need to dose 4 times, I had them before, one dose, my buddy same thing, one dose. If you dont have SPS they will die. Keep in mind, there are now black bugs for LPS! yikes!

Heres the tech for the actual procedure. I have a total sys vol around 300 gal, so i just use one whole pill and let it do its magic.

redbugs live on acropora sp and the like. removing them and the redbugs have no food and die. if i remember correctly redbugs have a five day life cycle, so will die off fairly quickly. however, leaving even a small piece of acropora encrusted on rock or the like can be enough to keep a small colony going waiting for one to add new acros. treating the whole system with interceptor eliminates this possibility
