What exactly does chaeto do?
i dont have a fuge but i have chaeto in my overflow so that it is getting the same amount of light, if not more light than my corals and there is constant water flow going through the chaeto. it has nearly doubled in size since i purchased it. what exact benefits does having chaeto in your system have on your tank?

It feeds off and removes phosphates and nitrates from your tank. Then when it starts to get out of hand you prune it back. By doing that you have exported your nutrients

"Chaeto is a controllable macro algae. The basic idea is that desirable macro algae, such as chaeto, eat up the same nutrients as undesirable algae. For example, Byopsis, green hair, cyano, etc. Thus, out competing them for nutrients."
"Under the right conditions, this macro can virtually 'vacuum' your aquarium clean of nitrates and phosphates." http://www.reefchaeto.com/ |
