Hello Ima New bee with problems!

Hello,

I am new to the site, as well as the saltwater hobby! I am having trouble with my gold rim tang where it has developed some type of granular bumps and unusal markings/ yellow/brownish weird parterns on its body as well. I am currently treating the aquarium with a product called kick ich. I am currently on my 8th treatment (instructions say 15.) The weird markings still remain on the tangs body but the white granular bumps have disappeared. Whats very strange with this situation is every morning around 4am, the white granular bumps seem to reappear(what the @#$%) and a couple hours later they disapear (yellow/brownish weird parterns on its body still remain) ?? The tang also flashes of the live rock in the morning but stops after a couple hours! (which is possibly a result of the stange marking???)

All water parameters are within range,,,
Tank is about 5weeks old.

75 gallon tank, wet dry filter, (1) 850 gph power head, 100 pounds of live rock, 300W heater+ 1 spare, protien skimmer, 9w UV.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRCIATED!!!

Stop wasting 40 bucks on bottles of kick ich. There is no scientifically proven way to remove ich with a chemical in a reef, regardless of what it says on the bottle. The only way to truly rid your tank of ich is to treat with copper in a quarintine tank while leaving your display tank (DT) empty for 8 weeks. Its a pain and you will have to rip everything necessary out to get the fish. There is also a hypo salinty treatment that has been proven to work in liue of copper, it too must be done in QT (quarintine). Be sure not to transfer any of the treated water back to the DT. I am guessing the marks are from the fish scratching against the rocks......I have had success with kick ich and malichite green in combination.........I will search through my old posts and see if I can find it.....The method I used can put sesitive inverts at risk, I personally experienced no deaths and I have a mix of sps and lps.......only seeing my method work once is why I am not willing to definitively say it works though.....hence my argument for copper in QT. Oh ya...welcom to reef central!!!!

Thanks for the advice!!! so the B.S kick ich didnt work for you huh? I hate wasting my time and money. How hard is it to set-up a QT? does it need to cycle for 4weeks prior to me putting the fish in? How big does the QT need to be 20 gallon? I have a gold rim tang, scopas tang, coral beauty, 1 clown and 2 engineer gobbies and clean-up crew. All fish are small in size. My goal is to convert to a reef tank by the end of this summer but im a little discourge because I cant seem to solve this ich problem! Feedings?? How often should I feed my fish? The fish store told me every other day? is this true?

IMO a QT should be cycled like any other aquarium, unless you use inert objects for decor and hiding spots and water from your DT. It should be atleast 20 gallons (10 will work in a pich but not good for larger fish). You can avoid the cycle by keeping a sponge in your sump at all times. Then when you need your QT fill it with water from your DT and throw in the sponge. I test amonia every other day when using a QT. You will find you do water changes every 4 or 5 days (small 10%). Feed sparingly when in qt.

Every other day is fine for the fish you have. Just research your purchase prior to buying your fish, some require multiple feedings daily. It would also be wise to pick up your QT equipment off craigslist to save money. If you can since you have to put all of those fish in a qt at once maybe shoot for a 30 gallon.

^mostly agree. One thing I HAVE to disagree with, is feeding sparingly while QT'ing fish. Whether it is removing them from the system for treatment, or QT'ing an initially purchased fish, you do not want to deprive of food. If anything, you want to overfeed. When a fish is sick, or being medicated, those that are WELL fed always do better. Otherwise, good advice.

Is this fish new?
