How to tell if a hermit molted or died?

i had 2 blue leg hermits, and i had 2 bodies turn up a few days ago. i figured they were both dead, but after a day or two one of them turned back up in his old shell so im guessing he just molted. still havent seen the other.

It's difficult. I don't even bother, because I don't remove hermit bodies, I figure something is going to eat them if they're dead.

+1. worrying wont do anything if it died, or if its still alive so you might as well not worry at all

for me empty shells = dead hermits...

I have lost maybe 3 hermits over 1.5 years... not bad. All blueleg and micro blueleg.
