Measurements of a Viper clip on halide

So I'm in the planning/building stages of my new setup and I wanted to use the two 150W Viper clip on halides that I already own. Unfortunately, my significant other is taking care of my tanks for me and I've got all the tools so she is without something to measure with to give me accurate measurements.

I'm looking for the width of the clip on portion of the unit, i.e. the amount that is actually in the tank. Mine is the first generation unit (without the fan) although I think they are the same size. I know its in the neighborhood of 8", but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks!
