Can I use water softeners instead of ro/di system

I currently have my ro/di unit connected to my ato on my 150 gal... I'm setting up another nano cube and don't wanna buy another ro/di unit... Can I use those water softeners like the Kent Marine one .. Are they any good?? I don't wanna use it and then have an algae outbreak

No, in fact I've heard where the DTS is actually higher for some people after the softener.

Nope. Water softener simply does an ion exchange. It does not remove any of the bad stuff.

Can't you add a tee with a cutoff to the outlet hose of the existing RO/DI unit?

I would use a separate container for the ato, I have heard/read to many stories of the ato sticking on and the ro unit flooding the tank.
