de-frosted frozen food

Is it ok to use frozen mysis shrimp that was in the freezer the whole time but the freezer didnt keep it cold enough n the food began to thaw for 2 days which then i noticed it and placed into a different freezer? The food was not 100% thawed but was definitely muss.

I've bought frozen foods on a hot summer day only to come home with a pack full of warm mush. A few hours in the freezer and all was fine. You shouldn't have any problems.

Shouldn’t be too much of a problem but considering it only cost $5 for new frozen food, personally I would replace it.

Refreezing food in your freezer might tend to degrade the quality by bursting cell walls. A good food should be made with a flash freezer, or at least frozen more rapidly than a home freezer will. I'd likely just pitch the food.

Not ideal to refreeze. I would probably feed it to my fresh water fish though they are the red headed step children...

I'll bet it's cold in Pennsylvania right now, no? Go for it! Being timid is a good thing, but not in this instance...

Just look at it as a hot meal.

ok thanks guys if it were only 1 thing i would be fine replacing it but i have 3 1/2 and then 2 cyclopeeze which all did it. So im looking like 35 bucks in food it think im gonna just use it since it was like it was out in sun and stuff was still cold. I know nutritionally wise it probably isnt greatest any more I will just use selcon every day instead of ever other.

I forget my frozen food out on the counter all the time. Sure refreezing will degrade the nutritional content, but I think my animals already eat a more nutritionally sound diet than I do.

to piggy bank on this thread...

My girlfriend just called me and told me that apparently I left out all my frozen fish food. So we are basically talking about the food sitting out since last night around 6 or 7 in a room about 63-65 degrees. Is this all headed for the trash or can i toss it back in the freezer and use it later?

Food Consist of:

Sheet of Frozen Krill
Cubes of Frozen Mysis Shrimp
Cubes of Ocean Nut. Formula 1 and Formula 2

If it is warm (room temp) to the touch I would toss it. if it still feels cold I feel you would be fine.
