Wanna hear from the fish poice...
I am going to set up a standard 55 gallon tank soon as a fish only tank. I was wondering if a dwarf lion and a niger trigger by them selves would be to much for that tank, or if I should just stick to the dwarf lion. Or are the dwarf lion and the trigger not even compatible at all?
Also, since this is going to be a fish only tank, what is the lowest salinity level I can keep the tank at? Is 1.022 or 1.021 ok, or is that to close to hypo salinity levels for it to be good for the fish? Is there a benefit to keeping the salinity at 1.026 or are lower levels like that fine for fish only? EDIT: Sorry, the thread title was obviously supposed to say fish police...

both hypo, and hyper can be bad for fish but I find they both can keep diseases away

i dont see any issues with keeping the two fish together. ive actually seen quite a few aquariums with triggers and lions. both are predatory fish. issue may be the niger trigger size. it wouldnt be good to see the niger trigger somehow inside of the dwarf lions mouth!

Long term exposure to higher - or lower than natural salinities is something that makes no sense to me....
I mean - they live in the ocean at a rather narrow range of salinity for a reason....... For a short term treatment - sure lowering the salinity may alleviate some symptoms- especially with parasitic infestation. Hyper saliniy - is a sure way to stress and over-work the fishes kidneys. I would recommend you think about keeping the salinity in the range of natural envirements for the fish. T

A niger will only work in that tank if very small and for only a short period of time. They get longer than a 55 is wide and just get too big.

55 is too small for a niger trigger.

Alright, Niger to small for a 55 gallon. Would the dwarf lion be ok then? I would like to have two fish in there, but do not want to be cruel to the fish either. If that means one fish then so be it.

Triggers and Lionfish are not compatable. There is a sticky thread on the Aggressive fish forum. Never had them personally, but read the thread.

I think a Dwarf lion & a Sharp-nosed puffer would make a great combo for in there. Be sure to make some shelves out of rocks, as lions tend to hang out under them--puffers like caves.
