Wiring case fans for aquarium cooling

I have a question about case fans. I have two case fans wired to one 12v adapter. Everytime i disconnet one fan the other one speeds up alot, when i connect it back it slows down. what is happening? Am I cutting the amperage in half everytime i connect both?

thanks

More power = more RPM in all case fans

How did you wire them?

sounds like the 12v adapter maybe on the the lower mA side. Whats the power output listed on the power supply? You should have a spec sheet with the fan you bought...or a sticker on the fan motor listing its power consumption and speed. Start adding the mA and get the right sized power supply. 12v fans will run on almost anything down to 5v they just slow down when under driven

Yes, this would be the case. You wired "in parallel" with an identical potential difference to both fans. When you connect a second parallel path only half as many electrons will take that path because both ways are the same.

The correct way to wire multiple fans is to wire them in parallel.
