My 2 1/2 year old son is fascinated with my sump I have found foam letters floating in it a plastic toy car his baby sisters binky the scary part was I caught him using the turkey baster to feed the power strip (he told me it was hungry) needless to say I have put a lock on the stand. all that by the way was in one morning about 30 min

My 2yr old son "helps" me fill my ATO by dropping the powerhead in the bucket that I fill it with. He also likes to "check" my plumbing to make sure it is tight. He will shake the lines and then nod his head. He is also under the impression that the fish will "get him" if he sticks his fingers in the water. He isn't scared, but it is cute.

He also calls my yellow tang baby - because he is small, and my cucumber a "nake" (snake)!

He loves helping me acclimate fish by scaring them and shaking the acclimation container.

and the list goes on and on.....

My daughter is the door closer. Usually people put locks on their doors for their 1 year olds. I put them on my fish tank, but no need. As soon as she sees me go over the tank and open the doors, she runs over and closes the doors and gives me a look like, why do you keep opening them. Its funny.

My daughter wonders how I can spend $1100 on lights for my "stupid fish" but make her pay for her own $800 in car repairs.

LOL, tell her that you can put lights inside her car too.

My then 2 yo son was playing with a yellow and black flashlight one day running around the house shinning it.
A few days later I noticed that in my sump there was a yellow bodied black headed cylinder "fish" swimming around.

When I opened the case up the batteries were rusted. After that I moved the love seat to cover the two front doors.

My 14 month old likes to smear his cookie face all over my 180. I had to childproof everything, he will open the doors take out stuff and then close them like he was never their.

childproofing the tank is a necessity when you have small children. my two year old enjoys feeding the tank. but i recall,
one day i was mixing some saltwater to do a water change. i had the power strip connected to a gfci and had to go use the restroom. my wife was in the living room and didnt think nothing of it and about five minutes later i heard my son crying and ran into the room. he was playing with the water and jetted some water on the power strip. well, he felt a good shock and now never plays with papa's water buckets. thank God the gfci tripped.
i learned a good lesson here and i never leave fish stuff around the house where my kids can get into. especially if they can push a chair to the table and grab it there also

I have birds, no kids. That said, they're probably as bad when they can get into the tank. One likes to dunk his food in the water before he chews it up. The fish get a little snack and he gets some extra salt in his diet.

My youngest bird gets in the sump and pulls out airlines and drops 'toys' (anything that he can pick up) into the sump. I have to keep the change hidden because those are toys in their eyes.

Ahh I've had many fond memories with my kids and my tank. When it was FW, they helped me feed and do the water changes, they called it "flushing the toilet for the fishies". In December, my 6 year old decided she was going to clean the tank for me as a surprise. She wiped off the cabinet, wiped down the lights and then proceeded to windex the outside AND the inside of the glass. She insisted that since the inside was dirty, she had to clean it to for me, it was so sweet and yet so deadly to my poor fish .

So after a little heart break (she was upset all our fish died) we cleaned the tank out and started doing SW. Now days she likes doing science (water tests) and she now knows not to touch the tank when I'm not around.

not me, but I just read this morning I think, that their kid dumped an entire box of cereal in the sump to feed the fish. They can be sooooo cute with their intentions.
