Help me find a sump for this tank.

I REALLY wanna use my 50 breeder for a sump but it wont fit. The only way it will is if I orient it diagonally in the stand(front of sump parallel with front of tank). If I do this, the two back corners of the sump will hang out the back of the stand a couple inches. I will need to leave opennings in the back of the stand as well as extend a platform under it to carry the weight of the over hanging corners (Or do you think the corners would be ok hanging an 1 1/2" or so off the back of the stand)

This will also create a pretty big triangle of blank space behind the sump. It would be usable but dificult access. maybe I could put my ATO resevoir there with a flexible funnel for refill.

Building the stand bigger than the tank has been tossed around but my space is really limited. This tank is a custom build for a specific spot in my home so space is tight.

My other option is I have a 29g I could use. I am worried that the volumn would just be too small to run as a sump and catch backflow when power is cut. The DT is about 120g.

I am not in the market for purchacing a custom sump as the cost of this tank is already doing me in.

Any thoughts or ideas?

What about a smaller sized corner tank from aga? I think there are smaller ones than the 54 - I am not sure what your stands opening is like, and you probably wouldn't be able to remove it once it was in though. Also, the weird shape might be a set back unless you really design your compartments intelligently. It would be ideal to use a corner style though, in terms of getting the most out of your sump with your DT's configuration.

upon more presice measuring, I should be able to perfectly fit the 50 diagonally in the stand. It will fit without a cm to spare. I can actually fit a fairly large ato container in the remaining triangle behind the sump and a dosing jug on each side triangle.

The sump design was may biggest stumbling block on proceeding with this build. Now that is solved I have to address the next road block.....moolah.

I would consider a remote sump/fuge. It doesn't have to go in the stand.

Hmmmm. I hadnt thought of a remote sump. Unfortunately I dont see how I could do it in my little house. Im having a hard enough time getting my wife to warm up to the new tank idea. If there was a sump and pipes and stuff in another location in the room, thered be no blessing on that set up.

Not sure if this will work for you, but...

My 10 gallon sump won't fit in the stand of my 33 cube, so I used a fairly nice 29 gallon stand to hold the sump.

Sump inside the stand,

In the skimmer chamber, yes.

If you look at the return section (( left chamber )), can see the water level right in the middle of the "taped" area -- I use that for when I am out of town and having someone else topping off the tank(s) -- it shows them were the water should be.
