My brain has a crab in it. really.

I have a green coral brain, I got it from a neighbor who had to tear down his tank because of his job. I noticed a hole spot about 1/8" in diameter, and tonight I was looking closely and a crab would pop out and shove some sand out onto the brain, like he was cleaning his home or somehting. Is there anything I should do about this?

Nice title, for a moment I was picturing you having a run-in with the dreaded Ear Hermit.

(I don't know the answer to your question, so I will leave being helpful to someone else )

What is a ear hermit? I tried to look at him but he is very sensitive as like he can sense when I am looking at him. its like once he sees me he goes down and like a flap shuts.

Mine has one (or two) as well. I haven't seen any issues yet, but this is the first time I've even seen it mentioned on RC. I assume it was there when I bought the specimen, as that's a pretty close relationship to have formed by chance additions.

From what I can tell I think it might be a Paguritta crab, they are supposedly harmless, outside of that one small effected area.

Thank Ludnix, i googled paguritta crab and found that these small Coral Hermit Crabs find abandoned worm tubes and holes in hard coral in which they reside.

It's a reference to something you didn't get in the ear-hermit reply. Go watch Star-Trek the Wrath of Khan and you'll understand.

(jokes aren't as funny when you have to explain them )

But this is a good post. I was wondering about the hole in my brain that I recently picked up. This probably explains it, although I've never seen anything going in or out of it.
