Internal Overflows
Hi everyone,
I really need some help. I'm considering buying a used OceanView 60 gallon cube tank. It is not drilled for an internal overflow, which I would need. Does anyone know of a reputable online dealer where I can buy an internal overflow to fit this tank? I found only one place so far, but they are incredibly expensive, and I would like to look at some alternatives. I'm under a time restriction, so I'd like to find a place that has a fairly speedy turnaround. Also, my local pet store owner says he can drill the tank. There is no sticker on the bottom, so do you guys think it would be safe to drill it on the bottom, or should it be near the bottom on the back glass? I would really appreciate some help, my old tank of almost 20 years has sprung a leak, so I'm trying to get something new set up to transfer everything over before the leak gets too bad. As soon as I get the overflow issued settled, I can proceed. |

Dont know much about the tank but if you are looking for a simple overflow you can mount on the back wall glass-holes makes a good one.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did look at glass-holes.com, and at some of those on Ebay. What I was hoping to find was an overflow that would go from the bottom to the top of the tank, like those you see that are factory installed. Does anyone have any idea where I can find those? The only one I have seen so far cost about $180.00 which seems like an awful lot.

I am considering replacing my tank and am weighing on the overflow options too.
Is the full height chamber actually better? I'd imagine the higher drop in height would mean that it is potentially noisier (of course it can be dialed). And full height also takes up more real estate in tank. Just thinking out loud, I am thinking of having it customised but not sure which way I should go. |

Why not get one made at a local acrylic shop? We have a local place called D&G plastics. Of course my LFS made mine so.... I am very happy. Mine is black acrylic.

I have a new LifeReef overflow box on my tank and it works great. Not the factory installed overflow, but it's running just great, never fails to start up the siphon and takes up far less space than the top to bottom overflows. Plus, no shattering glass from drilling tempered glass. LifeReef.com

I have a top mounted internal overflow on my 120. I chose it for room to aquascape but it does cast a shadow on the back from my light. Not bad but that is the only negative I could point out. I prefer top drilled so if there is a leak or if I need to replace something, I don't have to drain the whole tank.

The main reason I want a tall one, is because I'd like to have the tank drilled on the bottom. That way, I wouldn't see the hose running down the lenght of the back of the tank, and of course, the hose could be shorter.
I wish I had an acrylic place nearby, but unfortunately there is nothing like that around here. I'm way down south in Mississippi, and choices are limited. I really appreciate everyone's suggestions and comments. I've been looking on the internet for two days, still haven't had much luck. |
