Timing Pumps
I just got 2 new korelia 3 pumps and was wondering... do you put them on the lighting timers or do you run them 24/7?
I know the idea of wavemaking... but I dont have that kind of timer. |

It's best to leave them on 24/7. You need the flow in your tank all the time, and those pumps are not made to keep switching on and off.

Koralias (older models K1 -K4) need to be ran 24/7. In fact you can damage the koralias by constantly cycling them on and off. The motors will burn out. If you want to create random flow buy power heads that are meant to cycle on and off. Vortechs and Tunze are both ok for this. I find I get pretty random flow by pointing them at rock work to break up the constant directional flow normally produced.

Run them 24/7. The ocean never stops, neither should the flow in the tank. If you aim the pumps at the glass or at each other from across the tank, or at a rock, you'll end up with some degree of random flow.
