Ambient room light a problem?

My tank is in the living room and the lights go out at 8:00pm (actinic at 9:00pm), but often the living room lights are one much later, sometimes very late on the weekends. The room light casts enough light into the tank that I think it might keep the fish awake. I don’t think its caused a problem so far but was wondering if anyone else thinks it could be a problem, and if so, what’s your solution.

Gary

Why don't you have your tank lights come on later in the day so you can enjoy a lighted tank in the evening. My lights come on at 5:00 PM so I can actually see the tank. R

That would solve the evening light problem but would create the same problem in the morning. My living room has large windows without blinds (I live in the country) and is lit as soon as the sun comes up.

I guess I’m just concerned that the fish and corals could suffer if they don’t get enough full dark hours. When the lights go out on the tank is fairly dark and the fish do go to their respective sleeping locations but they don’t really bed down like they do in full dark. The corals seem to be responding normally to the tank lights so maybe I’m just looking for a problem that isn’t there. Just seems like sometimes my fish are looking at me as if to say… Hey buddy, put out that light, I’m trying to sleep over here.

I have the same situation - tank is in the living room and main lights go out at 9pm. Never caused a problem.

My other tank is in a different room without blinds and although it gets lots of morning light the fish don't 'get up' until the tank lights come on. Somehow they just know....
