finally started on 245g have a ???
Hey All
Well after 6 years of not having a tank in my life I am finally setting up my 245 gal. that I got from work 6 years ago... I built the stand but I am wondering if I need more crossbeams in the stand? I think it should be fine but want some other feedback... It is 1/2" thick acrylic and the tank is 8' long 2.5' wide and 2' tall... there are support beams all around the tank but I just have 1 crossbeam in center... Do I need to plywood the top or should it be fine the way it is??? Thanks for your help.. Mike |

Maybe another 2 cross beams would be a good idea. Since your tank is acrylic, yes it would be a good idea to cover the stand with plywood, and then a layer of 1/2" thick foam insulation for the tank to sit on.

I piece of plywood across the top like previously stated would be a good idea, also covering the back of the stand with a piece of plywood will help immensely with structural integrity.

Thanks
Hey thanks all...
I did install 2 more crossbeams and have the plywood just not sure if necessary..... I was more worried about the stress on the tank more than on the stands integrity as I am sure it is plenty strong and sturdy enough... (was built w/ 4x4's and a contractor..lol good to have construction friends!!) As far as running insulation I am trying to keep the tank from getting to high (already have to step ladder to get in it..) and the weight will just flatten 1/4" to paper thin so is it really necessary? what will it aid in doing? Thanks again I am sure I will be posting more as it goes.... Last edited by mkobu; 03/11/2010 at 12:21 PM. |
