Thinking about upgrading

I currently have a BioCube 14g and am loving this hobby. I am thinking about going bigger...something in the 40g-60g range, possibly a cube. Can someone recommend a good bang for the buck manufacturer to look into? I would like to find something already drilled, with an overflow, and plumming included if possible.

Thanks!

Anyone? I would really like something large, 36" wide and not too terribly tall.

Sounds like any of the Marineland cubes would be exactly what youre looking for.

Edit - Just want to mention there will be nothing in the 40-60g range with a 3 foot width. As far as I know you would have to go custom if you want that volume with that width (presuming you want a similar length)

I'm sorry, I meant 36" length.

yep - I immediately thought about one of the bigger breeder tanks. Not sure what or if anything is out there in a ~50ish gallon cube.

Its done! Drilled 65g with overflow and coralife 2x150w is on the way. Let the games begin. Put togeather this 20g sump for it the other night.

Any bang for the buck recommendations as far as skimmer and return pump go?

What do you have room for in your sump for. I see used ASM skimmers pretty cheap. Ive used, found to be reliable and work well, not sate of art any more though.

I have 7" for the skimmer and 5" for the pump. I thought this would be able to accomodate most of the popular options. Was I wrong? It would not be hard to move the baffles.

Re: Thinking about upgrading

with a small footprint, take a look at the bubble magus skimmers, they are pretty decent and many of them have very small footprints. Nac6 or Nac7.

hth

The NAC6A was at the top of my list. I am thinking a Quite One 2200 for the return. Thoughts?

Quiet One's are freaking loud. I would look into an eheim myself. Well, to be honest I replaced my Loud One 2200 for an Eheim on my 65g.

Which model Eheim did you go with?

+1 for a Bubble Magus. I've never personally used one, but the Eheim 1260 would work well for your aquarium.

always remember the rule of thumb in saltwater hobby..

"upgrade to something you can't afford"
because sooner or later you will end up upgrading anyways, losing more in the long run.

LMAO this statement is really true. Wish I had someone to tell me that before I bought all this stuff for my bow front tank. 2 months after setting it up, i'm already upgrading and this time. I'm buying all the goodies.

If you are going to a 40B, you could look at using 2 MP10's instead of a single MP40.
Eheims are very good pumps, i currently have a Quite One 4000, and mine actually quiet, but seems like i have to clean it out each time i turn it off for something like a water change; otherwise with the dosing it will not come back on at full power when i turn it back on. Had not had this problem with other pumps.

I ended up going with a 65g Perfecto, drilled with corner overflow. It was a toss up between perfecto/marineland and AGA. I am glad I went with the Perfecto because I LOVE the black silicone work.
