Need Help with humidity in my house
I have a 240g tank and I'm having a problem with high humidity in my house.
It's to the point that I'm getting a lot of condensation in my windows & mold/ Mildew on some of my walls in my house. What can I do to get this under control? |

HRV...heat recovery and ventilation unit..they basically exchange the inside air with the outside air
other then that ...exhaust fans in your tank room will help too..either leave them running or hook them to a humidistat.. |

Portable dehumidifier or leave a window cracked.

When I had a 180 in Minnesota glass tops on the tank did wonders for excess humidity in the winter. People will tell you that will cut off oxygenation of the tank but I never saw adverse effects.
Second option as pointed out is ventilation of humid air.

I had MH lights over my tank and a fan to regulate the tank temp. I had almost 5 gal a day evaporation rate in a system with a total volume of 150 gallons. I switched to an 8 lamp T5 fixture with no fan and the evap rate dropped to about 5 gal a week. Is your tank open on top? If so you can also put glass panels on it to reduce the water/air contact area.

Dehumidifier is the easiest route. Couple hundred bucks will get you a pretty good sized one.
I used to live in a small apartment with my 55 gallon and I also had mold/moisture/humidity problems from the tank. You could also install a bathroom style ventilation fan in the room and vent the humid air out through the attic as mentioned. |

I would try to avoid a dehumidifier with the electric rates in ca. They pull a lot of juice.
An air exchanger, covering the tank, or a cracked window would be a better option.
