Skimmer on Timer???

I have a new reef octopus 200 needlewheel skimmer. The pump is noisy because of the venturi, so I'm thinking of running it on a timer for ~19 hours/ day to eliminate the noise when people are near it.

The tank is a recently set up 125 FOWLR with a 55 gallon sump. Eventual moderate bio-load.

Does anyone think this a major problem? I know it will be less efficient than if it were running 24/7.

thanks.

Doesn't your venturi come with a silencer?
