Dual 55 gallon Tank Lighting?
I just completed building my dual tank stand (one for fish and the other for either breeding or to keep feeder fish). I just had a question about lighting.
I know the word on the street is 3 watts per gallon for i believe soft coral. But what about lumens? Wattage seems to be a lame term to use. Different lights put out different amounts of light (lumens). So what would be amount of Lumens for growing soft and hard coral? I currently have: 2x 48" 32w Daylight Fluorescent 6500k 2700 Lumen bulbs 2x 48" 32w Actinic Fluorescent (i dont how many lumens that is) to me it just seems that its a generic term to use wattage but i could be wrong. This is my dual 55 gallon tank, i still have to paint the sides and back (which is why i havent filled the bottom tank yet) |

You should be ok with shrooms and some less light demanding softies, You would need more for LPS's.
Be forwarned, you will soon be hearing from the "tang police" BTW, To Reef Central

Yes they will be telling you that your tang should be in a larger tank.

i figured thats what you were talking about. This summer i'm building a 260 gallon tank, so she will have a nice home. She isnt "too big" yet for the tank, she may only be about 4" tall when fanned out. her and the sweetlips are the reason for me building a bigger tank. So Tang Police, rest assure, i am going to take good care of them

oh yeah, i do, they are great fish imo. i cant wait to get one of those that are grey and orange, i cant remember the name of it maybe naso tang? but i refuse to put any more fish in there till i get a bigger tank.
I was thinking of maybe making the second tank into a freshwater tank because i seen some of these beautiful tanks at: http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.or...tegory=0&vol=2 pretty slick if you ask me |

FW, IMO, gets tiring. Nothing really going on. I do have a small one, but i find that compared to the SW, it is very boring. You can use the 55 for a sump once you get the 260 up and running.
Just advice, not yelling, if you still have that many chromis by the time the 260 is up and running, might think about putting some in your sump, however I doubt they will last that long. Generally they keep taking out the weakest link until there are 2 or less left.
