major siphoning problems with overflow
I just got my sump and plumbing hooked up to the overflow. Within 50 seconds after I would get the siphon started, it seemed like the water in the outer part of the overflow got drained so fast, and then allowed air into the u-tube and killed the siphon. how in the heck do I fix this problem? One of the times it wasn't the outer part that was the problem, but it was the inner portion being sucked dry of water faster than water could flow in. I need some advice badly. This aquarium setup is making me want to pull my hair out lol.

What type of overflow box is it?
It sounds to me that perhaps the rear (( outside box )) baffles isn't high enough, and the bottom of the U-Tube is getting exposed. A short term fix (( at to help you see if that is the cause )) is to attach a piece of PVC to your U-tube and see if that helps. I used silicone to attach the PVC to the U-tube. It will look something like this,
