Canister Filter Question

We have a 4 stage compartment canister filter that is on our 90 gal reef and we were wondering what is recommended in these filters?

I would take all of the compartments out, fill it with cured live rock ( smallest pieces you can find. Rubble) and let it go to work.

I use Purigen and Polyfilter. Along with some rinseable pads. Clean and maintain all every month without fail.
