DIY RR Overflow

I've decided to try and rig up my own RR style overflow for my new greenleaf tank. I've never done something like this before and I'm not sure what type of material to use. I found some "gray pvc type 1 sheeting" on USplastics.com... would this work?

I'm also looking for some general advice. Do you think the twin wall overflows are better? The ones that allow water to be sucked up from the bottom as well as the top? If so, what kind of spacing is typically used between the two walls? The overflow will be about 5 or 6 inches long and 3 inches deep, if that matters.

Thanks!

Personally I think that those dual walled overflows are actually counter productive in a reef tank.

You want the surface skim to feed the skimmer, and you will most likely have plenty of flow that there is no need at all to draw water from lower in the tank.

I see what you mean. Well, that will make things easier for me!

Anyone have any advice on what material to use?

I use 1/4" acrylic sheet when I make mine.

If you've ever worked with acrylic, it's one of the easiest DIY projects you can take on. If you haven't worked with acrylic, well, it's a great place to start

Here's some pictures of the overflow I made this weekend, I wish I had that table router to make the slits in the overflow
