My Coral Beauty won't eat.
I picked up a beautiful coral beauty over the weekend so far, he hasn't eaten anything I put in there (frozen food, flakes, pellets, etc). Does anyone know of a food that these guys like? I don't want to lose him.

Does he still hide when you come around?? May still be adjusting to his surroundings. Mine took a couple weeks to come out and eat when I fed. Then she became a little miss piggy. Don't forget CB eat off of rocks and stuff too. Keep an eye on him, of course. I hope all goes well. Keep us posted

Yes - he still spends most of his time hiding in between the rocks so hopefully, he's eating. Thanks for the feedback!

Your welcome. Also, just incase you didn't know, CB's need Spirulina in their diet. I use to give a Angelfish frozen cubes by Ocean Nutrition and Nori..she loved it!! She also was very greedy for Formula 1
Do you have the CB that has purple lips?? I LOVE the purple lips lol Once he gets adjusted, they are the cutest little things with BIG personality. Mine use to chase my domino damsel around! She would show him who was boss lol He's probably eating, just not ready to let you see it! |

Did you see him eat in the store? I never buy a fish unless I see him eat first in the store.

He's probably still adjusting and, probably getting a few bites here and there. You can attach some nori to a rock where he's hiding out....good luck!!

I've had good results with the liquid garlic they sell at fish stores. It was really helpful when I was trying to get my Regal angel to eat mysis. Put a cube of the frozen shrimp in a little bowl with some water and then drip a few drops of the liquid garlic stuff into the water with the mysis. Let the shrimp soak up the garlic and then pour it into the tank. It may also help if you feed heavy. That way some gets back into the rocks and stuff. Over a couple days heavy feeding can really bring a shy fish into the fold.

My CB eats New Life Spectrum - All Purpose and mysis like crazy. Rest of the time she's just eating off the LR and snails.
Mine took a few days to adjust...

I added a coral beauty to my tank about a week and a half ago - he hid for a few days and would only go for the diatom bloom on the back glass of the tank. Now he vigorously goes after the formula pellets, frozen mysis shrimp and dried seaweed as well as the algae on the rocks so just give him some time - he will come around.

Mine is still a bit shy too, got him about two weeks ago. It seems they are pretty timid to start with but give it time to come around.
At first he would only pick at the LR but now is a eating machine. It took about a week for it to eat prepared food but now it will eat NLS pellets, prime reef flakes, formula two frozen cubes (cut up into small chunks), and is starting to pick at mysis. Still shys away a bit when I go near the tank but is getting better about it. I've been offering nori about 3x a week and he is starting to pick at that as well. I'm switching off between the ON red and green nori. |
