I have noticed that alk issues usually affect the inverts first. I would start there

From what I understand it can take a couple of days for something like a snail to die. That said, if the LFS doesn't aclimate them correctly and you buy them shortly thereafter no matter what you do they may die anyways. Just something I like to keep in mind. They are sensitive animals and who knows how many times they have had water parameters shifted on them before you get them. I mean of course make sure it isn't something on your end, but sometimes even in a perfect tank newly added inverts can easily die.

Yes. It will paralyze them and they will die. I have done this. There is a fancy term I can't remember. To prove it to yourself, do a waterchange maybe 30% with instant ocean or something low mag. They will perk up almost immediately unless your mag is ridiculously high. Get your mag to 1200, and they will be happy. You will need to find the happy medium between 1200 and 1400 for your snails to live so raise it slow from there.

do you have a grounding rod, low voltage will wipe out snails

If you read the first few pages of "Finally a solution to bryopsis" thread, many people mention the mg killing/paralyzing their snails.

I had a similar thing happening when I was dosing kalk, and when I went back to two-part it stopped. Maybe it was an alk/pH issue. Everything else stayed the same but I lost a lot of snails during that period. Maybe the alk/pH was spiking too quickly when I was dosing the kalk?
