Lyretail Anthias?
I am looking for some colorful schooling fish for my 40 gallon breeder. I have some lps and soft corals. My tankmates would include a small maroon clown and a flame angel. Would adding a few anthias, specifically lyretail anthias be a suitable choice?
Any other reccomendation on colorful schooling fish would be awesome! Thanks for reading, Connor

I think any more than a couple Anthias would be too many for a 40. You might look at some of the Basslets, such as Tobacco or Chalk Basslets.

lyretails get big, maybe to big for a 40gal. Bartlett's may be a better choice.

I had a 3 Anthias in my 40B, but only had 2 other fish - before the system crashed while I was on vacation... They like to eat a lot, multiple times/day. Looking back, I like them, but the 40 was a tad too small for a school of fish their size. 2 were found carpet surfing within a month. I guess the flame Angle did not like them in 'his' tank.

Not really much available for a tank that size I'm afraid.
You can do threadfin cardinals, but they are a bit lacking in the color dept.

I would have to agree.
You could do one, maybe two, but I think 3 or more would be too many for a 40B. They just get too large, like to swim a lot, and eat even more. The cardinals mentioned above would work, but that’s really about it in the schooling department. |

I'm planning on getting McCoskers flasher wrasses - 1 male & 2 females. They only get to about 3 - 3 1/2" and will shoal together.

I agree with the others on the 40 being too small for the Lyretails.
