150W MH 14" Deep
Hi all, I think i'm going to be getting one of Sunpods 20" MH fixtures for my DIY 10 gallon, since i'm looking to make it into an SPS tank.
I know there can be an issue with having too much light, but that wouldnt be the case here, would it? I hope not, but right now i'm running only 36W of PC and have a very healthy Deep-water SPS, so I don't know how much the 150W MH would change my tank. |

Ok, cool. Are there any kinds of SPS that I still wouldn't be able to handle? I would think some very light-needy acros could be an issue than, if you're using 250W - but I'm not sure.

Your 150w will be fine. It is only 14 inches deep so it will prob be about perfect.

Sorry to bring a second question into this thread, but do you think this would require a chiller? If so, my parents have ix-nayed the idea, but if not then I'm good to go. I'm thining I would like to keep it on the legs, so maybe 6" off the water.

With a nano you may get away with it but understand that you will be relying on evaporation and with such small water volume it's going to throw your salinity all over the place. Where's Wilmette? Do you have central air in the house?

Yes, in the first floor (where the tank is) there is central air. EDIT: And I've just been informed that I could probably fly under my dad's radar by keeping the thermostat at 72-75* throughout the summer. He usually has a sixth sense for someone messing with the thermostat. |
