RO/DI unit suggestions needed
I need a RO/DI unit and I need help finding one that will suit my needs.
I don't need a super powerfull one as I'll only be using it as topoff water and partial water changes once or twice a month. So the GPD doesn't really need to be too high as my water changes will at most be 20 or 25 gallons when I do them. The main thing I need is a non permanent solution that doesn't make me cut any plumbing or pipes. I rent from a landlord and share a house with other roommates. My landlord would frown at me cutting up the plumbing for something like this. Are there any solutions that could use a hose in a garage or something like that? |

Most systems will come with a hose type adapter. You can also screw it to the sink in the kitchen (usually).
I would suggest checking out BFS.. Buckeye Field Supply. They have awesome customer service!! What size tank do you have? Last edited by reefvilla; 04/20/2010 at 10:00 PM. |

BFS-156 Value Series 75 gpd RO/DI System - $118.00
OR the BFS 161 Premium Series http://www.buckeyefieldsupply.com/sh...ry=167&Sub=166 You don't want to get the lowest GPD unit. I bought a 25GPD unit and the water was a very slow drip out of it. I now have a 75GPD unit and it is still slow but not too bad. If you have to fill a big tank or container, it takes awhile. |

Thanks for the info. My tank is a 120g 4' tank. I have to do about a gallon and half top-off per day. But other than that, I plan to do a 20%water change monthly or every three weeks.

I see that the one you linked is a 4 stage. I was looking at another one as well that is 5 stage. Is the additional stage worth an increase in price/decrease in gpd?

Is it a dual D.I. stage RO/DI? I suppose one could say more is always better but sometimes thats just not correct!?!? |

I would go wit at least a 75 gallon per day. I had a 50 gpd and upgrade to a 200 gpd and am so happy about it. I just have to be careful not to overflow the brute. Its nice if for some reason you need to change lots of water quickly you dont have to wait all day for it to fill up your container. And if your water is cold it will cut production in half.

+1 on reefvilla's suggestion
Buckeye Field Supply value system, 75GPD. Works great, and easy to set up. Came in two days. Fills a 33 Gal can in 8.5 hours. |
