Question Dry Rock ????

I am in the process of setting up a new tank that will be combined into my basement sump with my existing tank. If I put all dry rock in the new tank can it get seeded from the sump of the combined system or will I have to move a few pieces of live rock over from the other tank?

I do have some hair algae and some Majanos that I do not want getting into the new tank.

If you dont want the old stuff to migrate, dont plumb it all
together. The dry rock will get seeded eventualy, but faster
with direct live rock.

i'd put a couple pieces of the old rock in there to speed things along. you can inspect the pieces and choose those that show little to no pests. with the whole thing plumbed together though, you do open yourself to the possibility of whatever is in one part of the system making it over to another part.
