I have BRS rock too. I hit mine with the high pressure nozzle from the garden hoze for a bit and put it right into my tank. No issues and SPS started incrusting onto it shortly after.

the coralline will start to grow and spread immediately as long as your water parameters and lighting are correct for the corraline. You will probably need to add calcium.
