Unhappy Power compact lights blew out!

I had Coralife power compact lights for about a month and they went out! I am assuming they blew out because i didn't have a cover to keep the salt creep off the bulbs?.. and i never wiped the bulbs either. They are attached to the top of the canopy. There is a 2 1/2 inch opening in the back of the canopy and the lights are 4 1/2 inches from the water. I just bought one daylight bulb today to see if it was only the bulb that went out and not the ballast. The light worked.
any ideas to help me out besides getting a cover and cleaning the bulbs? Thanks in advance
