probably. Just like everything else, once once gets a good design it gets copied. I personally wouldn't buy the knockoff.

the red devil is a big improvement over the stock wheel, i would say that it max'd out the body/neck of my skimmer and is well worth the money.. but the biggest improvement i made was when i was changing out the the needle wheel i broke my ceramic shaft and i replaced it with a .125 carbon fiber rod and now my pump is silent.

I switched to the aquamaxx PW and volute on my Mini S. After the swap, the water level in my skimmer section dropped about 1". I had water flowing backwards!! My skimmer was only 2 days old so it was still breaking in. I moved my outlet to the same section to level the water back out.
By my highly calibrated eye, I can see that my buble chamber is packed full from top to bottom, not only half way like last with the stock stuff.
It was a great swap for $40 or so.

was this something that could be ordered, or was it something you bought and made yourself?

When i broke the shaft i paniced and ordered a shaft from http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/ca...duct_info.html but later realized that most hobby stores carry the CF rods. i got 2 rods that are about 18" long from the hobby store for $7 and cut them to the same length as the ceramic shaft.

just make sure they are the solid rods and not the tube type.

John,
How loud was your skimmer before? What can you compare the noise too? I have WM K2 that uses the same pump and would like to get it a little quieter. I'm wondering if the rod would make that big of a difference. thanks

there was always a grinding/clacking noise.. now there is just a very light hum. the water exiting the skimmer is louder than the pump.

I found some .125 carbon fiber rod at a hobby shop, but it is smaller in dia. than the ceramic shaft.
Was your ceramic shaft and the carbon fiber shaft the exact same dia.?

Nice. I just ordered a new shaft and I could have picked one up.

What was the length of the stock shaft?
